Why did you take up Law?

I guess I’m looking for my purpose, which is a fancy way of saying that I was bored and confused when I applied.” Wala e, yun talaga.

E sakto, ongoing ang application for LAE.

Birthday dinner for Agnes

Extra lang ang bluebook ko, but I just have to make yabang. Baka di na maulit e, hehe, knock on wood! =)

Para Kay B (O kung paano dinevastate ng pag-ibig ang 4 out of 5 sa atin)

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Books
Genre: Literature & Fiction
Author:Ricky Lee
“Me quota ang pag-ibig.

O dahil reality is relative? Whatever.

new theme

I woke up early to study for Credit Transactions but I ended up searching the web for a new Multiply theme. Time you enjoyed wasting is time not wasted.” (salamat, John Lennon.) Why can I stay up for extra-curricular activities but not for reading cases?

Hahay. I’m too tired to read. My rayuma is on the offensive again because ot the two games of basketball we played for Courts of Law yesterday. Yes, the Queen of Sedentary Lifestyle moi played ball without even warming up. Hayan, sakit tuloy ng katawan ang inabot. At least I’ve done some of the stuff I never thought I could do:

1. Be in a game and not be a cheerer
2. Be in court and enjoy
3. Exercise!

Buti na lang naka-score sila Golda at Tin, we won against Block C. =)

the death report

Unusual Deaths in 1984
Tommy Cooper collapsed from a massive heart attack in front of millions of television viewers, midway through his act, on the popular ITV variety show, live from Her Majesty's. At first the audience assumed he was joking.
Jon-erik Hexum, an American television actor, died after he shot himself in the head with a prop gun during a break in filming. Hexum apparently did not realize that blanks use paper or plastic wadding to seal gun powder into the shell, and that this wadding is propelled out of the barrel of the gun with enough force to cause severe injury or death if the weapon is fired at point-blank range.

Bibliophilia*

Here's a hilariously naughty poem for all the book lovers out there. =)

Some like the aroma of kitchens
Others, the bouquet of fine wine.
I like the look and smell of a book
As I lovingly finger its spine.
I long to uncover its secrets
I just want to take it to bed
Most delicious of treats,
To slip into its sheets
Head down, pages spread.

Tagubilin at Habilin* (Jose F. Lacaba)

Tagubilin at habilin:

Tagubilin at habilin:

Tagubilin at habilin:
Mabuhay ka!

Attractive Nuisance

So there really is such thing. I thought the professor was kidding when he put in the class syllabus under the topic Limitations on ownership and other property rights something called "attractive nuisance". Aside from me, I couldn't think of any other example (shet, baka tamaan ako ng kidlat. Haha). To add to my incredulity, Article 695 of the Civil Code provides for only two types of nuisance -- public and private.

In the case Hidalgo Enterprises vs. Guillermo Balandan (G.R. No. L-3422, June 13, 1952), the doctrine is explained as follows:

"One who maintains on his premises dangerous instrumentalities or appliances of a character likely to attract children in play, and who fails to exercise ordinary care to prevent children from playing therewith or resorting thereto, is liable to a child of tender years who is injured thereby, even if the child is technically a trespasser in the premises... The principle reason for the doctrine is that the condition or appliance in question although its danger is apparent to those of age, is so enticing or alluring to children of tender years as to induce them to approach, get on or use it, and this attractiveness is an implied invitation to such children."

The doctrine is a common law invention so it's not in our civil law.

The above explanation brings to mind some enticing appliances likely to put reckless individuals to danger if used without caution. But they're part of the anatomy so I guess it's not within the contemplation of the law. *grin*

Kaming Mga Antukin. Bow.*

Bakit may mga taong mabilis maidlip
Kahit ilang tasa ng kape ang masipsip
Ang sandamakmak na readings ay di kinakaya
Natutumba na sa ikalawang pahina.

Gabi-gabi na lang ako ay ganito
Kaya sa klase ay sobrang kabado
Nananalangin na hindi matawag
At mangangakong magbabasa na magdamag.

Subalit sa susunod na gabi
Ganon ulit ang mangyayari
Minsang hihikab at iinat-inat

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends*

*pasintabi sa Beatles

The past week has been one of the most physically, mentally and emotionally draining weeks of my life. Although I missed the drama that was enrollment, most of the succeeding episodes were topbilled by moi, hehe. I could have been booted out of school had it not been for the persistence of the ranters who worked together to pull me out of the grave that I dug for my self. With my mood swinging at a dangerously fast pace, I wonder how and why they managed to endure me. Agnes, Gian, Golda, JD, Patty and Tin, thank you so much.

Here’s to another sem of cramming, ranting and drinking! *group hug*

James Blunt Live in Manila

Tin, JD, Golda, Agnes and Oliver, Kelly, Zara and moi trooped to Araneta Coliseum last May 19 to see James Blunt perform. Because we got hold of the tickets late (tapos nagpasundo pa si Golda, nagpapedicure si Agnes at naligo pa si Tin), we were only able to catch the last five or so songs. It was worth it though. James (heehee, first name basis) definitely rocks! And oh, have I mentioned? We got the tix for free!

We all "wander through fiction to look for the truth," as Goo Goo Dolls puts it. And what better way to do it than watching films that provoke, enlighten, provide intellectual orgasm (or maybe just orgasm, haha) and entertain? Here's a few of my favorites...

Barkada Trip (Ilocos Escapade, Day 1)

After hibernating for the past couple of months, we finally had the chance to abandon our books/cases (not that I really spent time with them, haha) and enjoy the summer. Enjoy we did, as Tita Cely (Tin’s mom) invited us to go with her on her work-related trip to Ilocos. Although the ride from Manila to Ilocos was 12-hour long and we did not have much space in the car, we were all so excited to notice. The two-day sight-seeing, swimming, bonding and camwhoring was definitely one of the most enjoyable trips I’ve ever had.

Here’s our itinerary:
Day 1
Narvacan Church
Baluarte
Vigan Heritage Village
St. Augustine Church
Burgos Museum
Hidden Garden
Syquia Mansion
Night swimming at Nalbu

Brighter Than Sunshine

by Aqualung

I never understood before
I never knew what love was for
My heart was broke, my head was sore
What a feeling

Tied up in ancient history
I didn't believe in destiny
I look up you're standing next to me
What a feeling

What a feeling in my soul
Love burns brighter than sunshine
Brighter than sunshine
Let the rain fall, I don't care
I'm yours and suddenly you're mine
Suddenly you're mine
and it's brighter than sunshine

I never saw it happening
I'd given up and given in
I just couldn't take the hurt again
What a feeling

I didn't have the strength to fight
suddenly you seemed so right
Me and you
What a feeling

What a feeling in my soul
Love burns brighter than sunshine
It's brighter than sunshine
Let the rain fall, I don't care
I'm yours and suddenly you're mine
Suddenly you're mine

It's brighter than the sun
It's brighter than the sun
It's brighter than the sun, sun, shine.

Love will remain a mystery
But give me your hand and you will see
Your heart is keeping time with me

What a feeling in my soul
Love burns brighter than sunshine
It's brighter than sunshine
Let the rain fall, I don't care
I'm yours and suddenly you're mine
Suddenly you're mine

I got a feeling in my soul ...(repeat chorus to end)

madness, indeed

My deplorable lack of creativity hit all-time high these past few days so I am posting what some geniuses from the junior class have concocted for last year's (ok, this is a bit too late) Malcolm Madness. Thanks, Vani, for sharing these with our block.

Profs say, I only read what I want to
And they say I talk so all the time, so
And they said that my mind was simple
And they said that I don’t belong
And now that I am leaving
Now I know that they said something wrong
They dissed me
Yeah… They dissed me.

And they say, I only read what I want to
I don’t listen hard, don’t pay attention to the facts, the issues, ratio
To anyone, anywhere
I don’t understand if you really care
I’m only hearing negative -- L O A

So I turned to OCS, got an LOA form
and Ma’am Daway told me to be strong
“Trust in the Lord and don’t run away
Just stop crying, it won’t help you anyway”
Some of us hover and we weep for the others
who were dying since the day they enrolled, well, well
This is not why I think that I’m going, but I’m gone
And I thought I’d be here forever
But now I’m not so sure
She tried to tell me that I’m clever
but that won’t take me anyhow or anywhere with law

Hilbay said I was naïve and I knew that he was wrong, oh
I thought, hey I can leave I can leave oh
But now I know where I belong
